Jay, thanks for the interesting article. I think from Detroit by NW, or from Chicago by United, to China, non-stop over Alaska should be only 8-10 hours. If from San Francisco, then have to go through Tokyo (with a stop), then it takes about 18 hours. the article said "while the closest Chinese cities are at least an 18-hour, non-stop flight away" is sort of misleading.
