Spurgeon When the Going Gets Rough Isaiah 40:27-31 You are emotionally exhausted with no place to turn. Your troubles are so great that you believe no one would understand them. Doesn’t God see that I’m being mistreated? you ask yourself. Doesn’t He see how I am feeling? All of us, at one time or another, will experience times such as these. But the words of Isaiah 40:27-31 provide great encouragement. The Lord never grows tired. Instead, “He gives strength to the weary, and to him who lacks might He increases power” (v. 29). In addition, verse 28 explains that God’s understanding is far beyond our grasp. Therefore, we can have confidence in the fact that God will always comprehend our predicament regardless of its complexity. As if the Lord’s strength and understanding were not enough, verse 31 tells us He offers even more: when we are willing to wait upon God, He will provide us with new strength so that we can soar like eagles. What a wonderful image for our times of complete despair. As you consider the difficulties in your life, envision yourself receiving from God the ability to surge up and over them with the grace and power of an eagle in flight. This amazing strength is available to you today if you are willing to exchange your weariness for God’s divine assistance. There is nothing you have to do to earn this favor and aid. Simply trust Him and hand over that which seems hopeless, allowing Him to restore your joy. Copyright © 2000, IN TOUCH Magazine. In Touch Ministries. All Rights Reserved
