Any ideas on the brilliant academic who is reported to have said and done this: At a think-tank meeting last week, when a European diplomat asked rather patronizingly what all these American weapons were actually for, a renowned liberal academic simply quoted Kipling's line about "Making mock of uniforms that guard you while you sleep." And then he turned on his heel and walked away.

Great find, Nadine. I hope there are more than a few in the Diplomatic Corps that believe it. "Tommy," by Rudyard Kipling O it's Tommy this, and Tommy that, an Tommy go away. But it's "Thank you mister Adkins", when the band begins to play.... Yes, making mock of uniforms that guard you while you sleep. Is cheaper than them uniforms, and they are starving cheap.
