Correction. More of a Cohanim hoax than a Jewish hoax. See, this tribe didn't feel that hard working was good enough for them. So they PRed a god and got the taxes. They still do. Out of 120 Israeli MP, 7 (seven) are named Cohen... in Bible times they were one tribe out of twelve. Didn't lose much, did they ? Some Aristocrats! Some Market Makers! They only talk and kill animals (as to make sure they get their cut). Wars are good enough for the other tribes. Why, because cannibalism is forbidden ?
