That's what brought Nixon down and forced him to resign, which was unfortunate since the investigation should have been completed. This is much more significant to our country's security.Casius Belli? 9/11 was certainly a reason to retaliate. It was a television show. Bombs were dropped, but the terrorist leadership just accidentally vanished through an air corridor to Pakistan, where we've kept close ties with ISI for two decades. We have captured or killed a whole lot of Al-Qaida. I would love to hear that statement from any of the Bush League. We hear the opposite: "terrorism is increasing" is the message. So, either they have to invent more groups, or the identified group is alive and well. Which is exactly what they say, not that it's been destroyed. What's happening is belligerence breeds belligerence, and increasing warfare is the inevitable result, not increasing security for the US. Rather than focusing on those responsible for 9/11, it's party time, go after every military, political and financial agenda item. To truly go after the 9/11 perps requires recognizing all manner of facts that the administration avoids: there are dozens on the websites mentioned, but one just one little item is the fact that Saudis were in the 9/11 planes, have refused to cooperate except ceremonially, still provide hundreds of millions to terrorists, and yet are invited to Crawford for BBQs. These are our enemies, pure and simple, but kissed on both cheeks by our esteemed profiteers-in-chief.These people are not idiots and its a big world out there for them to hide in True. But the claims are not what the administration says ("they are jealous of our wealth and freedom"), it's that the US gets involved in their blood feuds. Get out of the Middle East, and let them solve their own problems, and ask for help from an honest broker like the UN, which the US can participate, but which ALL COUNTRIES are responsible for. Instead the Bush Doctrine is unilateral, witht the presumption that the US is reponsible for the planet. The problem of US hubris is that in every dispute worldwide, the entry of the US overwhelms the issues. Pretty soon both sides are fighting or currying favor with the US, and if we're not smart, we get dragged into every dispute on the planet. This destroys our domestic political system with bribes, pr disinformation, backroom business concessions, etc.
