IBM Backs Analyst Estimates on Earns, Rev

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Computer hardware, software and services company International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE:IBM - News) on Wednesday said it is comfortable with analyst estimates for 2003 earnings and revenue.

Analysts see IBM reporting earnings of $4.31 per share on revenue of $87.02 billion, according to Thomson First Call.

IBM Chief Financial Officer John Joyce made the announcement during a meeting with analysts in New York on Wednesday. The company has seen its growth hurt this year by the decline in corporate technology spending.

"Analysts' current average for revenue expects to see IBM get back to some growth next year. In light of current GDP estimates, we think this is a reasonable objective," Joyce said. The company released a statement at the same time that Joyce made the remarks.

"And, based on this revenue growth, and coupled with all that we have discussed today, the Street's average estimate for growth in earnings per share for 2003 is also reasonable," he said.
