Your talking mostly about Bush. Obviously he isn't going to the front lines during battle. You also mentioned politicians sending their kids to fight, but its the kids decision to go if they are old enough to fight.

Now you change the subject a bit to increased security consciousness and volunteering. Those are great ideas and I think it would be a very good thing if the kids of more senior politicians (as well as people entirely unrelated to politicians) made more effort to volunteer for worthy causes, but I don't see how that is a good litmus test for a president.

It only makes sense if you're gung-ho to kill Islamists go down the the recruiter and see what he tells you that you can do, rather than proposing to send others to their deaths.

I don't know of ANYONE who is "gung-ho" to kill Islamists. The current administration is gung-ho undo the foreign policy disaster of the previous administration, under which the then president allowed Saddam to thumb his nose at the ceasefire agreement he had entered into.

This is a classic case of a subsequent administration having to clean up the substantial mess left by a previous one.
