i'd say yes they do, but none seem to block out 100% of the pop ups.

i use NoAds ( southbaypc.com ) and i'm pleased with it.

i hear plenty of other programs mentioned here on the thread. i can't recite them all. a good rule of thumb is to keep whatever program you decide to use well updated.

it's the only way to give yourself a fighting chance against these pop ups.

also, recent posts alluding to SpyBot and Ad-aware make the point that by blocking and eradicating spyware from your system, fewer pop ups are seen. so i'd keep that in mind, if i were looking into ways to combat pop ups.

as far as "do they cause other problems which would make one regret installing?", i can answer for NoAds and the answer is no.

Lost1, I paid for AdSubtract. It can filter out cookies, ads, popups and more. You can set criteria for different web sites. Drawback: some sites give desired info via pop-up. If the popup filter is active, nothing happens. But it's easy to disable temporarily.
