Is he all well?

Poor thing, they are out to get him every game.

Maybe he should put her in a game...if she can hang onto a purse, think what she could do with a football!

Vermeil's wife mugged at shopping plaza

Associated Press

Kansas City, Mo. -- Carol Vermeil, the wife of Kansas City Chiefs coach Dick Vermeil, struggled with a thief who got away with her billfold in the city's fashionable shopping district.

The 66-year-old woman had a scraped knee after the man knocked her to the ground late Tuesday afternoon on the Country Club Plaza.

"I had a heavy shopping bag, and he followed me to my car," she said. "I was putting the bag in my trunk, and he followed me from the corner and came up beside me and asked what time it was. I looked at my watch, and he grabbed my purse. I hung on for dear life. I would not let go of my purse."

She began screaming, and the man reached into her purse and snatched her billfold, containing cash, credit cards and mementos. She said he ran and got into a waiting car.

She said the money was insignificant, but hated to lose the credit cards and pictures.

"I had one picture of Dick when he was a high school coach that I've always carried," she said. "He looks like he's about 19 years old. I've always loved that picture."

Dick Vermeil, 66, said the ordeal was "scary" for his wife. second season with the Chiefs.

"We have problems in our society. This guy has problems if he's going to make a living snatching women's purses for a living," the coach said. "But everything has been taken care of, and her confidence is back."
