What is the most concerning to me, is that someone will have a breakthrough in cost
Ditto. A cheap, easily sealable membrane would change the industry.

0.5 mW/cm2 (0.5 V & 1A) is typical for PEM, but they can get to 0.7 or more. I don't know if power density is as critical for PEMFC because the membranes may be a smaller portion of the cost. I don't follow PEM closely because they need clean hydrogen, and the hydrogen infrastructure is a long ways away.

Is Siemens model of Tubular comparable to GLE's planar?
They differ greatly in that the tubular design is much more expensive to make but doesn't have the sealing problem.
