After reading your visceral response, LB, I am somewhat perplexed about how I should respond in turn. Do I make equally ridiculous static claims as you have just done or should I even attempt to discuss this subject with you in a cogent manner knowing very well in advance the futility of my endeavors.

Stay calm, zonder. What LB is saying that the degree of Mideast policy change you are advocating -- something that would make the Arabs happy, which would require a policy change not far short of declaring Israel to be "Occupied Palestine" -- is not ever going to happen due to some fixed internal realities of American politics. In this, I believe that he is correctly assessing the situation.

It does not mean that smaller degrees of change, for example, having the State Department's preferred policies come to the fore, for example, are not possible. Though even that would require changed circumstances. While both Israel and the US are fighting terrorist attacks, they will be pushed into closer political alliance. This is to be expected.

After reading your visceral response, LB,

Hey, "Hang Loose, brudder!" I am just your normal Waikiki pussycat! :^)jcky, all I am saying is that some positions on the ME will not change, and figuring out solutions based on changes in them is a waste of time. Stuff like, "Forcing Israel into a Unilateral withdrawal to the '67 borders," etc, are just fantasy.
