You would have to be Chinese to understand. I think the cultural gap is too great for you, being Irish. The reason the Chinese horde gold is because they had more than any other nation many disasters with paper money collapse since the middle ages. It was the Ch. that invented paper money. They since have had currency collapses and depressions with regularity. They are also one of the first placer mining nations. They mined in SE Asia and Borneo for 4000 years. The conical Chinese Wooden hat was used as a gold pan. The Romans used the same design called in their culture a Batea. ON the Chinese side of Mongolia is a major undeveloped gold break, one of the world's largest, and it is being developed by the Ch. government. I would recommend participation except for the red tape, corruption and lack of electric power in China. Many Canadian companies got burnt in there.

When the boat people got here in 1974 they all brought with them about 5 kilos or more of gold, which they pooled this among families to start businesses in the US and Canada. I have a suspicion that many Ch. families still guard a horde. Don't tell the admin boys.
