I used to do a lot of winter and summer sports in Quebec. Great place for backcountry and telemark skiing, skating (on the Rideau Canal in Ottawa), and biking. My last big tour was around the Gaspe Peninsula. edit: And of course take advantage of those great end-of-season sports equipment sales and the exchange.

Speaking as a Torontonian, I go to Silicon Valley in the late summer to cool off and I go to Silicon Valley in the winter to warm up.

Skiing is great! Scuba is better!
