hi tc i didn't think the interest level was such that anyone cared. <g> turns out the Norton Protected Files and the Recycle Bin Files are located are in a folder called Nprotect, inside a folder called RECYCLER. but here's the clincher... the Nprotect folder is only visible (via a search or just looking in explorer), when "enable protection" is unchecked. amazing. and i do not know if that's for everybody, or all operating systems, or what. but for my install of nav2002 on win2000pro, that's the story. as you know, the norton protection can be toggled on and off inside the norton protected recycle bin. right-click the bin, select properties, click the norton protection tab and uncheck "enable protection". this requires a restart to take effect. but ultimately i found that i could make the Nprotect folder appear and disappear (without rebooting) simply by toggling the "enable protection" option, then re-searching for Nprotect. "is this Chinese water torture?" of course not. you and i and a few others here know that this is more fun than humans should be allowed to have. thanks again for your attempts to assist, tc :) mark
