Jim Willie, I have been using using Datek (now merged with Ameritrade) for my US trading for 3 or 4 years now and have been very pleased with their service which appears to be just as good since the merger. vt

Why not consider Interactive Brokers? $0.01/share up to 500 shares and $0.005/share over. Fast execution and you can trade futures from the same account. The only downside is that they are pretty much online only and don't have a regular trading desk although I have not found this to be a problem. I've been using them for about two years.

JW - I would consider either E-Trade, Scottrade or Brown. If you're a frequent trader you'll soon qualify for E-Trade's reduced fees of 10/trade.
