RE: "bribery central"--The Czech Republic is east of Germany, and I just spent four weeks there and saw no evidence of expectations of bribery anywhere. Now I imagine that once you get step deeper--for example, if I were to try to buy an apartment there instead of just rent--it might be necessary to grease some wheels. The only rackets I saw going on were some disgusting characters working the tourist crowds offering to change money. There's more padding and skimming going on in London than in Prague, though, in day to day transactions.

On the subject of inflation: Isn't it already here? That PPI number is very high, and many of us have been clobbered by steep price rises in specific sectors. Go get a root canal if you don't believe me <G>. They've eliminated the physical pain but replaced it with financial extraction.
