Karen,

The USA Today article reads to me like a well planned lobbying effort to speed up the pace of rebuilding the countries infrastructure. A noble idea with a well thought out marketing effort: Uncle Sam better build us some roads before Iran wins the hearts and minds of the people. A good message and my guess is it will get them some roads.

It is not surprising the life in Afghanistan is difficult. It is also not surprising that the US is proving slow or inept at nation building. It is a big job and the US has no succesful experience to build from. There will be very little permanent investment until a path towards stability is understood.

However, nobody in that article was pining for the return of the Taliban. Given half a chance and a little support, the people of Afghanistan will work out these issues and rebuild their economy and their country.

BTW, there is no comparrison between the political and economic situations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Paul

In February, she launched Afghanistan's first magazine for women.

"I am in greater danger now than I was a year ago,"

Damn women anyway. She should just put the burka back on and get in her place - covered, concealed, and quiet.

Come on Karen...
