Rick .. Thanks a bunch for ALL of your help ... I know you spent more time on the problem than did I ... this is a GREAT thread ..... and filled with FINE folks ... I suspect what happened on the failure on the System Restore is that I'd most likely caused the "snapshot" of the system to be faulty .. as I'd tried a whole lot of things in a very short period of time ... I have ADD *(attention deficit disorder) .. really I do, and my mind works in leventyseven different channels all at once ... and I get verrrrrrry verrrrrrry impatient when the box slows down on doing things ... so I "think" that I shortstopped the System Restore in mid steam and caused it to not function properly .... my fault, I feel sure ... at any rate ... I was frustrated, as I "KNOW HOW" to fix such things in the older versions of Win ... and I have NO fear .... that is why I was informed to leave her machine alone ....heheheheheh thanks again
