Boxing is simple, if you have a position in one account, take an opposing position in another account. I'm short IBM, long term, in my regular account. Went long the 'Beamer to box it in my IRA, to neutralize the net exposure. Makes it easier to reshort, just set a stop loss to get out of the long. No share borrowing, no uptick rule, etc.

all it means is you've taken an equal amount trade on the other side...ie; if your short 100 shrs ibm you'd buy 100 shrs long to box
