I think I remember reading an article about this in "Scientific American" some time in the last five years. It's a very real possibility. The ocean currents that emerge as the Gulf Stream make some kind of circuit clear around the world, as I recall, and this extra fresh water in the north Atlantic can interfere with the whole global conveyor belt. This would have enormous consequences for energy stocks and would probably quickly bring nuclear power back as an important option.
