Well, yes. I had heard. But to use it as an insult, to people one has never seen, seems odd. I don't think you would say "You diabetic a**" or "you hypertensive a**", so one has to wonder what elevates this particular health concern to insult status. Or i wonder that. And then, I think about bulimia and anorexia, the result of our hatred and obsession with the bodies of women. We are a fat culture, obsessed with thinness. And I think if you use "fat", a health problem, as an insult, it says something- especially if you use it repeatedly, and target women.

Since it is a disease, that would make people with any sense of empathy be sympathetic about obesity rather than use it as a taunt. It was back in grade school that I learned it was inappropriate to taunt the mentally and physically handicapped. But then, I recognize that not all posters here have yet reached my stage of matuity.

I agree with X that the "fat" insults are ridiculous, and the fact that obesity is a health risk hardly justifies using that sort of gratuitous physical insult. It insults all the overweight people who read these posts, to use the word "fat" as an insult. It's like insulting someone by calling them tall short or ugly or accusing them of having a cleft palate or being bald or being too thin.

It just doesn't fit in to any discussion.

And it isn't, I notice, being used against any men.

All overweight males raise your hands.
