Man Falls Out Of Plane, Plunges 9,000 Feet
Man Was Co-Piloting Single-Engine Plane

POSTED: 8:06 a.m. EST November 18, 2002

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas -- In Texas, the search resumes after daybreak for a man who fell out of an airplane and plunged 9,000 feet.

Officials say the man was co-piloting a single-engine plane when a cockpit door suddenly opened during a steep turn. The victim was sucked out of the plane and is presumed dead.

Authorities said the man was not wearing a seat belt or other restraint.

The other pilot radioed the FAA before safely landing at an airport near Houston.

A sheriff's official said federal, state and local authorities plan to scour a 10-mile radius for the victim's body.

The man who fell had a pilot's license -- but required a co-pilot due to an unspecified medical condition.
