You can buy U.S. securities straight from the government here: I know. but it is a lot easier to just keep it in my brokerage account and pay the broker a few bucks to do it. I'm dealing with big enough numbers that the few bucks aren't worth the hassle. however, they didn't follow my instructions. If I got screwed they are going to make up the difference, even if it's $10. I'd like to know how much I got screwed by (if I got screwed) before I call them.
