Unfortunatly no, and I did even think about it a few years back in the mid 90s. Of course prices have multiplied since then particularly over the last 3 years or so. Some friends have a small one bedroom house with small garden a few blocks from the beach. They got it around 1990 for 200K and now it's "worth" 750K. Renting because of the large college population in SB is even worse with every toolshed being let out as a studio. It's certainly become discovered and I don't even think it's that great of a place to live compared with some surrounding towns. If I bought a place in the area now it would be San Luis or just south of there or possibly Ojai.
