When you are in a data call, the call may go to dormant from time to time when there are certain time of inactivity, for instance when you are reading a web page after you downloading the page. As a result there will be certain delay when the data call trying to come out of the dormancy. As for the browser, I think the people who wrote the browser are not doing a good job of understanding and utilizing managing the 1x data capability. In the past they are just using the circuit switch data so that makes things a lot more simple to manage from phone's side. Now it's much harder, and if you don't understand the 1x well then you may well be under-using it. One thing though is to make sure that you always got the latest version of the software. Just go to Sprint's store from time to time to get the latest SW upgrades.
