Darren. This statement from the article that you mentioned ....." A statement attributed to al-Qaeda threatened more attacks in New York and Washington unless America stops supporting Israel and converts to Islam ".... A number of other posters have had remarks about this statement. IMO this is what it is all about expanding islam by force or fear. It's not about rich and poor or foreign policy it's about spreading islam and instilling fear into those of us who are unbelievers and infidels. islam has at last come right out and said it but I'll bet it goes right over the heads of all the infidels who now support islam and freedom of religion.
