Cheaper oil would help but it would not be a cure-all. People dont seem to care about the price of gas anymore, they still buy pickup trucks and huge SUV's.

Oil prices have much less effect on the US economy than they did 20 or 30 yrs ago. The Bush Admin knows this.

In fact, they also know that all this sabre-rattling is very much increasing the cost of oil. So if they were really just obsessed with cheap oil, as you think, the Bush admin would calm down and lift econ sanctions on Iraq.

So the Bush admin's current hard line on Iraq would be totally irrational in the context of pushing for 'cheap oil.'
