Let's see.
Henry the 8th doesn't "matter" much to me. He's dead; he probably isn't coming back; he and his era are a bit off putting, but I just read this really long book about him because it was interesting and entertaining even if the book doesn't "matter" much. I've got lots more examples, but that'll do, Blovon, that'll do.

There are tons of things that are very interesting that don't matter.

I am interested in who wins certain football games, though it doesn't matter to me in any meaningful sense.

I am interested in plays and novels, though of course in the scope of life it makes no difference at all whether King Lear lives or dies, or whether Mrs. Mason is found innocent or guilty, or whether Darcy and Miss Bennett marry or not. But I find the stories interesting even though they don't matter.
