I just popped in long enough to take a crack at touching Chris. I was
clearly not successful at touching.

You successfully touched.

You didn't successfully persuade.

There's a difference. Isn't there?

You didn't persuade me because the reality is that if Poet had really wanted to disengage, she could and would have. Since she didn't choose to disengage, my conclusion was that she didn't really want to, no matter what she said.

This is not like a marriage, or even cohabitation, where a person is locked into a relationship that is physically, emotionally, and financially difficult to get out of. I know all about those, working in the field. This is not those.

On SI, disengagement is simple and direct. Just Do It. No lawyers needed, no absolution needed, no judge needed, no cops needed. Just Do It.

If one doesn't, it is because one either unequivocally chooses not to disengage despite saying the contrary, or because one is equivocal about whether one really wants to disengage and can't bring oneself to do it because the experienced rewards of continued engagement overcome the perceived rewards of disengagement.

I quite frankly don't see why that is so difficult to comprehend.

That's a good thing not to do.
