your input is helpful. re the missing ie5.5 repair tool, i just found a mskb article that describes how to run the tool from a command prompt if it doesn't show up either in add/remove programs or in system information/tools. i'll report back if the command prompt route works.

it's helpful to hear that despite opening all those windows, you never got more than one instance of IEXPLORE.EXE to show in task manager (or Tasklist). btw, what os are you using? i'll admit to not knowing what the heck tasklist is. <g3> obviously, it's similar to task manager in xp and w2k.
