What's the problem, Mulholland? I hope they all decide to live in the LA basin, but then my property values wouldn't appreciate much...<g> It may not be a "good" thing but it ought to be a factor in one's long term planning. California is definitely on the radar screen for the world's immigrants.

But wait! Its worse than you think! Look only as far to the west as Japan our nearest neighbor across the puddle. Their living density approximates 5 TIMES the average density in California. Imagine LA even just doubling or tripling its density in your life time. Then there is China and India with billions(!) some of whom lust for "living in California".

I don't ascribe notions of "goodness" or "badness" to these large scale demographic trends by just acknowledging their existence. Just that it will have an obvious impact on property values over the long term and that is the perspective that I use to view property.

Landlords should take note, your referenced article is projecting 24 million more Californian's by 2025. Its perspective is longer than mine. I'll settle for 20+ in 2020. Not that its a "good" thing, just that it is. Or will be. And I just hope that I "will be" around in 2020, as well!
