The clip was without context, from 4-hours.
I saw a brief clip of the "I don't have to explain myself to anybody" statement but not enough to know whether he was talking about the public or the cabinet (or maybe Tom Dashole?).

Considering everything Bush has said on his own in the past, I'm sure they won't be able to release much of the real tape.

Hopefully it isn't so bad they can't at least release more than the few seconds we heard.

This is getting ridiculous, if Public Relations of the top elected leadership shields even frank discussions, or honest questions, and everything has to be completely scripted in advance, or completely censored aftewards.

This has happened a number of times. For example, on the morning of 9/11 Bush was in the elementary school sitting in one of those little kids' desks when a video showed Card giving him the bad news, supposedly, according to Card, he was told "Sir, American is under attack".

There simply can't be any questions probing that particular candid moment, yet it was caught on video. The result is that from now until 2008 (if he gets reelected), there can be no subsequent question of that incident, or else either Card or Bush will look like incompetents or liars (or both).

Interestingly, this same show last night has the new angle on why Bush fumbled around on Air Force One acting like he was waiting for marching orders from Cheney - Laura Bush is now the scapegoat, the one asking George to be careful, not rush in, etc. She was also quoted by an awestruck Bob Woodward as saying she couldn't sleep at night afterwards, and, gosh, lo and behold, neither could Bush. I could almost hear the music swelling in the background.

Anyone who could sleep in those first few weeks either wasn't paying attention, or was an idiot.
