This deal brings the total number of independent multi-unit purchasers of the Stand-Up(TM) MRI to four. The contract calls for the customer to place orders for all ten Stand-Up(TM) MRI scanners within the next 18 months. Each of the ten units will go into production upon the completed installation of the prior unit. If the customer elects not to purchase all ten units, special pricing discounts will be forfeited. The ten scanner deal includes one that has already been ordered and which was previously announced by FONAR. Raymond V. Damadian, president and founder of FONAR, said, "This customer fully realizes that the Stand-Up(TM) MRI is the only MRI scanner in today's market that offers a substantial, immediate and lasting competitive edge. The proof is that Stand-Up MRI installations invariably experience extraordinary growth rates in patient volume. The scanner has remarkable appeal among both physicians and patients. "There are three basic features that give the Stand-Up(TM) MRI its competitive edge. First, because of its unique ability to scan patients upright, it is able to detect certain pathology that would go undetected on a conventional recumbent MRI scanner. Second, it is now the only True Open MRI on the market. And third, it produces images of extraordinary quality." Dr. Damadian added, "Aside from the additional revenues that we will be realizing from this order, a commitment of this size enables FONAR to manage its production and installation operations more efficiently and economically. Not only will this agreement benefit the customer and FONAR, but we're very proud that it will definitely improve the quality of healthcare in many communities." The first independent, multi-unit buyer of the Stand-Up(TM) MRI was Washington Open MRI of Maryland, which purchased four. Rose Radiology Centers, Inc., the first Stand-Up(TM) MRI customer in Florida, has purchased two. True Imaging Medical Group, the first Stand-Up(TM) MRI customer in California, has purchased three. The Stand-Up(TM) MRI is the only whole-body MRI scanner with the ability to perform Position Imaging(TM) (pMRI(TM)), i.e. patients can be scanned standing, sitting, bending, lying down. Because of its unique ability to scan patients in weight-bearing postures and in positions of pain or symptoms, the Stand-Up(TM) MRI identifies pathologies that may go undetected on conventional MRI scanners. Patients are typically scanned in a sitting position watching TV.
