Karen... this is like arguing how to avoid an violent homeless person from threatening you and your kids and/or everyone else in the neighborhood.. Some people are just crazy, no matter what you do... They want to kill you, extort you, or take revenge upon you for the plight they are in. But many are merely seeking power.. And any pretext is sufficient if it makes their cause seem just in the eyes of the their "audience". At first, for Bin Laden, it was the presence of US troops in Saudi Arabia, required to contain Saddam Hussein.. It made him angry so he targeted the US. (Some say it's carrying out the requirement, by proxy, to destroy the "infidel ally" used to defeat a fellow muslim state, Iraq).. Hardly anything was mentioned about Israel or the Palestinians... But now that's the focus.. And later, if we are required to attack Iraq, that will be the excuse for conducting operations... But we can't worry about that... What we need to worry about is convincing the regional regimes that if they help the terrorists, we'll overthrow them and find power groups within their states who will. We need to convince states that have not previously cooperated with the US in suppressing those groups who provide aid and comfort to these terrorists, to do so now.. And we see evidence of this occurring around the region, including Yemen. No Karen... the way to "win" this war on terrorism is not to be timid and fearful. It's to be fearless and if necessary, ruthless, towards those plotting to attack the US. Let the other guy run for their lives and lives in a state of constant fear of being betrayed by their "allies".. Let THEM worry about who they can, and cannot, trust.. Let THEM worry about where they will be sleeping each and every night... Let THEM worry about being woken up by a MP-5 pointed at their head... Let THEM worry about who when a predator will be targeting them... What we have to worry about is how to pursue the larger strategy of politically and economically reshaping the middle east in order to provide the youth of the region an alternative to engaging in some useless Jihad. Face facts Karen. The US (as part of a Jewish conspiracy) is going to catch the blame no matter what we do, so we'd might as well do something aimed at empowering alternative perspectives. We see the potential for that occurring now in Iran... We're seeing some of it occurring in Bahrain... And we're going to see it take place in Iraq and Syria as well. That's the way you win wars Karen.. We reshape their mindset and economic participation in the world. We do it in just the manner that we did it with Japan, also a completely alien culture, if necessary. That's the endgame here Karen... Don't worry about short-term terrorist attacks. Let's make sure that the US continues to "call the shots" in the region so momentum doesn't transfer back to Al Qaida... Keep 'em on the run... Hawk
