Minorities can get away with anything because Canada protects uniqueness. The Indian culture for the most part is invented from old Hollywood movies and the French culture is not really a cultural difference but a language preference. Both scream uniqueness and get preferential treatment.

Islam has a strong and more unique cultural identity than either the French or Indian could ever claim so their rights will be as protected no matter what vilification the Koran advocates.

No court in Canada would prosecute a Moslem for promoting hatred via the Koran because they're a minority. You would be admonished by any court in Canada for suggesting or promoting a characterization based on culture or religion.

The smallest minority on earth is the individual. Those who deny individual rights cannot claim to be defenders of minorities Ayn Rand

Why is their opinion so important? There's a lot more to Canada than just Toronto.

Man, you sound like you could be from Western Canada <g>. Of course you're right, but they don't know it. For some reason the nabobs of political correctness in the 416 area code run the show -- partly our lack of checks and balances (the more I learn about Jefferson, the more lucky I think you guys were).

The opinion leaders in Toronto have swallowed the national unity myth hook, line and sinker. To them for the 20 years following the PQ's first election win in Quebec, appeasement was far, far more important than good government. Mercifully that seems to be starting to change.

Lots of people have thought about your solution to separatism -- it's been suggested many times over cheap beer at the Legion. Quebec separatists were very clever in this regard. They consciously set out to be the abcessed tooth of the Canadian body politic. They've succeeded in being so annoying that quite a lot of people just want to see their whiney asses go. Personally I wouldn't allow my son to shed one drop of his precious blood to keep them in.
