yes, it did happen to Kirkpatrick. I'm not holding my breath though. Perhaps I gave the wrong impression in my last post. It's depressing not simply because I personally would love to go high and don't think I will (although I would and don't<g>), but rather because I identify closely with the other good people, most of whom are in the same boat and also won't get to the top. When someone like Pollack, who's a buddy, breaks through into public prominence and even perhaps has some significant influence on debate, I get a huge kick out of it, because it means that one of us has beaten the odds. I would be almost as happy to see any of the other good people in my peer group make it as I would be to make it myself. Unfortunately, the older I get the more cynical I get, and the less likely I think that is to happen. But you never know...
