anybody else find dubya's performance in the last excerpt,

He was "Back at the Ranch," relaxing and BS'ing. Plus, we don't know how Woodward edited it. However, it did not come over well.

I am reading Persico's book on FDR right now, and he is not at his greatest in the evening after a couple of belts. The one that really could get incoherent was Churchill, of course.

Hey, Tek, your Budget just got a boost!

1. Whine and Cheese (Reason)

A federal judge has struck down New York's law banning drinkers from buying wine from out-of-state wineries. U.S. District Court Richard Berman said the provision was unconstitutional discrimination against the out-of-state competition.

Now comes the tricky part. New York will surely appeal the ruling: States cannot let persist the notion that their restrictive licensing schemes are actually methods to restrict commerce, drive up prices, and split the proceeds with their co-conspirators. It will take a ruling from the Supreme Court to settle the matter once and for all.

In the meantime, vineyard fans in New York might actually be able to enjoy their favorite obscure wines without paying a small ransom for the privilege.
