More on wireless

During the Agilent Conf Call yesterday they mentioned strong or increasing orders for imaging chips for cell phone cameras. I think this is going to be a HUGE market and would actually be a killer app for me to get a cell phone. I think the market is seeing this also.

Can you imagine if cell phone companies used Agilent's imagers and HP's scanning technology in a cell phone? Your cell phone could become a hand held scanner to store documents on the road that you later print out, perhaps direct to a printer via IR or some other wireless technique skipping the PC all together.

I've felt for some time now that faster PCs is not what the new technology would be used for. No, it will be used to deliver 200MHz, P2 type performance from low power, hand held devices using 25 cent chips where you can make scanners or other devices that people want. There is quite a bit of image processing power in a 200MHz P2 if you just want single images and don't have a large screen...

You can also have these devices store recorded memos you speak into them...

Record images and sound... in a $200 cell phone using a 25 cent processor and perhaps a big flash card...

Pretty soon, people will want to share these with friends and they'll need some bandwidth... as Cary has said, but not until we get video and sound working on the hand helds.
