Prop - cash flow (which is income plus certain non-cash expenses).

It turns out that somewhat oddly there are many different definitions of 'cash flow'. By many (most?!) a flow of cash into a non-liquid long term investment qualifies as negative cash flow. This makes intuitive sense (if your cash-on-hand-and-cash-equivalents decreases then you had flow of cash to somewhere else).

BTW - There would be less confusion for operational cash flow - from which investments are normally excluded since they are not considered part of 'operations'.
