Actually, that is not too far from the truth. One mile to grade school, 1 1/2 to junior high, 2 to high school ( and then I bought my first car). My Dad said "You want a car, get a driver's license, buy a car you pay for and pay for your own insurance and then you can have one." I wasn't real thrilled about that since I could only afford a 14 year old car and some of the "cats" in school were driving 1 and 2 year old cars. Times are a bit different today, huh? Don't get me started about the poor people that have it so tough today. :)

...and don't forget "and lucky to have snowshoes to wear when it was snowing and a blizzard was coming..." and this after getting up at 4 to milk the cows and feed them, and doing other chores before breakfast, then walking to school 5 miles, etc etc....

I used to tease my Dad about "all of his generation reading the same book...."

But then I found that he seriously did that more than a few times in his life...

We are the ones that really have it lucky!
