Thus "free cash flow" is an analyst term which means cash flow minus capex

I disagree. My impression is that most people refer to it as cash flow from operations (not total cash flow) minus capex. Personally, I also subtract ESOP-related tax benefits because those benefits are related to whether or not employees exercise their stock options, not the core business of making and selling product.
