my new theory on dip buying- buy after the CEO speaks... because CEOs are underpromising. Yesterday we had cisco and amat. I heard the cisco call, not terrible but not good. "no visibility, tough climate blah blah blah". I can't comment on cisco fundamentally but I have friends at applied, and apparently the applied CEO said the same thing and my buddies say he's underpromising.

One thing for sure- the TONE of these CEOs is drasticly different than before, they are not cheerleading their companies. After both of these calls stocks took a dive... but analysts see through it (or, are blindly hoping for an uptick in biz) and today things have turned around.

I think the retailers are still listening to the CEOs and the pros are discounting them at this point. Hard to say whos right in the end but its a pretty consistent pattern... buy after doom and gloom negative comments because the dips don't last.
