British Army - 2 uncles killed in WWI British Army - 1 uncle killed in WWII British Air Force - 2 nephews, both served in Bosnia, one currently helping to enforce no-fly zone in Iraq. U.S. Air Force - son, recently signed on for four years in aviation electronics. I never joined the military myself. I was the first in my family to ever get to go to a University(Physics). I was thinking about that recently and realized that my father never encouraged me to join, then realized that it was probably because two of his older brothers were killed in WWI. I once expressed a desire to a career officer at my high school to be a pilot in the air force and he told me he thought I wouldn't make it. That was not very encouraging, either!
