HP says consumer demand for holidays 'not clear'

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov 20 (Reuters) - Computer maker
Hewlett-Packard Co. <HPQ.N> sees some stabilization of the
market for high-end machines, but the strength of consumer
demand going into the holiday period is unclear, Chief
Financial Officer Bob Wayman said on Wednesday.
"It's still not clear how strong the consumer market will
be this year," Wayman said in an interview after releasing
quarterly earnings.
The holidays are crucial for No. 2 personal computer maker
HP, which is losing money in its PC and high-end computing
divisions.
Wayman said that there were some positive signs in
corporate demand for more sophisticated machines. "It looks
like there's some stabilization in spending, but it's too soon
to say that there's real growth there," Wayman said.
