And I didn't know anything about Victoria's Secret. Since my primary work schedule is PM, I don't really keep up with what is on television during the primetime. Sometimes I will make a point to be home in time for "Battlebots", though. The Schwab seminar wasn't knock your socks off, but I thought it was worthwhile. The TA techniques that they taught were confined to trend analysis - trading within a trend, trading breakouts and breakdowns. Focus was on discipline and risk management. First, identify a stock within a nice trend. Second, determine how much you are comfortable with "losing" on the trade, then you set your downside stop based on that number. Thus, use of stops is critical to their strategy. Lets say a stock has been trading within a sideway band between 50 and 56, and you will "risk" $1000 on the trade. You can then set a downside stop at $48 and buy 500 shares. Or you can set a stop at $46 and buy 250 shares. So there is some decision on where to set your stop - you do not want it taken out on random flutter. Lets say your stop is at $48 and the top of the trend is $56, and you buy when the trend bottom of $50 is tagged. As near as I can tell, the theory is this: At $50, the stock can go either up or down. If it goes down, you are out $1000, if it goes up to the trend top, you bag $3000. So the trade has a 3:1 reward-risk ratio. The key is finding tight trading channels, and making sure the Reward-Risk ratio on the channel is at least 2:1. Channels need not be flat, they could go up or down. Constructing trendlines wasn't discussed as well as I would like. And use of confirming tools (oscillators, volume) were only briefly touched upon. Hope this helps Libby. I'd say it was worth the free admission. The info wasn't particularly advanced, but I learned or solidified a few things. Evidently, they are working on some more seminars based on what people ask for. BTW, I do not know if any other HTP members attended. I got there late and missed the introductions. And nobody came up to me to introduce him/her self. Of course I did not announce my name as "Warpfactor from HTP" :).
