If I see George Bush pushing us towards a police state that interferes with my rights and legal activities I'll take a look.

Without taking a look you can't see until it is too late.

the Second Amendment, which is the primary guarantor of our freedoms.

Gun ownership is far more restricted in America than many other countries, like Afghanistan for example. What steps should we take to achieve the level of freedom in Afghanistan, et al?

They are going to put your gun registration and it's muzzle id into their Total Information Database or whatever they call it along with your credit card purchases and your driver's license info and Poindexter, a convicted liar, will just not tell you. Then they will check your religious affiliation and monitor the number of times you pray and you RWEs will keep spouting about your belief in "individual rights???" while you vote in more of the people who are taking them away from you.

You're confused.
#1 "You guys" doesn't include me. I'm a gun owner since elementary school.

#2 NONE of the Amendments or any of the current three branches, nor the media, protect you against a secretive government that conceals their actions and information. That's in the constitution proper, the right to a representative government. By hiding their actions and potential criminal culpability, officials no longer represent you, and should be impeached. Every effort to hide and conceal should be get maximum scrutiny. The opposition party is failing in their duty.

#3 If you want to relax and not be concerned until you see something that interferes with your rights and legal activities, read 'VOTESCAM', just as one of a hundred books over the past 20 years detailing how fraud is perpetrated with your money and vote.

It's already too late, when the Executive, Congress and Judiciary combine to subvert the Constitution, for example, secret tribunals for citizens, or spying on your every move. We can say "Nahh, won't be used against me!".
But just having the power guarantees it will be used, at some time. Having faith it wont' is too much faith in people, rather than laws.

We can all be fat and happy as government robs us and our children of trillions in wealth and drives us into another decade or two of debt. Not a good idea.

The test is the election -- if Bush's popularity declines in 2004, we'll have a terrorist "incident" here in the US large enough to drive everyone into their homes and bunkers to vote for the status quo. This is not a desire, it's a prediction.
