I got hooked on Louis when I was in the sixth grade, on "To Tame A Land." It's still the best, I think. Some would say his characters are too shallow (or some such). I like them because they are unambiguous. There's too much ambiguity in real life, and it does not entertain me. I very much believe that George Bush has read L'Amour and agrees with me. He sure behaves like he does anyway.

That was 1956, as I recall.

The first novel I ever read was Tarzan of the Apes, by Burroughs. I don't remember how old I was then.
