" LOL! Nobody is saying you HAVE to satisfy other people. We are saying that IF you want to be considered NORMAL, and to be treated NORMALLY, then you "need" to acknowledge the legal and moral standards of those with whom you interact, and you "must" satisfy those standards to some degree, or suffer the consequences of being treated like a boorish and inconsiderate ignoramus!"I choose to be the kind of person who does that " DUH!? And the fact that you choose to be the kind of person who does that (if indeed you do) PROVES that you wish to satisfy the laws and moral standards reflective of the general values of the people in your community. Your wish not to subject yourself to public disapproval is again indicative of the fact that you wish to satisfy public standards in your community. If you did not you would not give a fiddler's fig about their disapproval. Yes (DUH) we know you made a free choice to value their approval. But we were not discussing the obvious fact that your actions refllect your values. We were discussing whether or not your values reflect an interest in satisfying certain standards common to civilized men and women, and in particular whether or not you are capable of feeling and expressing regret in order to meet and satisfy those standards. Now if all you want to do is feint, evade, and obscure--then you might as well just put on your personalized dunce cap, and sit in the corner. If you are not discussing the issue in good faith, then you are simply wasting everyones time.
