The 1st US Carrier offering Nokia's tri-mode 3585 CDMA 1xRTT is MetroPCS: metropcs.com They are the 1st carrier I am aware of in US actually stocking the unit. It is powered by Nokia's 1xRTT chip with 1xRTT data capability to 153 kbps (less protocol overhead). A semi-reliable source (correct on PCS matters about 80% of the time <g>) tells me that the Nokia 1xRTT 3585 is shipping this week to Sprint PCS and should be in PCS stores next week or worse case the following week. I'm holding my breath on that one. The rumor that this has been pending has been persistent but also has been around for quite some time. Watched pots sometimes boil. Evidently both Sprint PCS & MetroPCS plan to take delivery of the 3285i which adds A-GPS when it becomes available Q1 03. Leap's Cricket is now carrying both the Nokia 6370 and the Nokia 8270 (both are 1xRTT voice only, 1900 MHz only). mycricket.com U.S. Cellular is offering the tri-mode Nokia 6385 with 1xRTT voice and data capabilities in its cdma markets: uscc.com Presumably these 4 1xRTT models are also being distributed in Latin america but I have no visibility on carrier adoption there: I was rather surprised to see Strategy Analytics credit Nokia with 9.4% of cdma handset market share worldwide for Q3, given Nokia's rather Plain Jane cdma lineup (mainly 5185i and 3285 cdmaOne models and the 2 Cricket units) in that quarter.
