And the national savings rate was far higher than it is now... of course, we were barely out of the 'developing economy' ranks at that time... things were considerably different in the economy and with the country.

The first important act passed in his presidency was the Immigration Act of 1924, which limited immigration and excluded all Japanese people from immigrating here. Then he passed the Revenue Act of 1926 was which reduced income tax by 10% and he almost eliminated income tax on the middle class citizens. It resulted in the rich paying 93% of the taxes and the national debt being reduced by $2 billion. The last bill that he passed was the Kellogg-Briand Pact of 1928, which attempted to force most countries stop fighting/attacking each other or start disputes. As we all know a many countries didn?t keep up their promise under this act.
